My Couch is Stucked In the Lift!!!

*Please ensure your audio is turned on to fully experience the project.* "My Couch is Stuck in the Lift!!!" is a VR project that took place in my current rented apartment, the fifth place I've called home in Sydney. This piece is based on a personal anecdote about a day when I miscalculated the dimensions of a second-hand couch and the apartment lift, resulting in an almost comical but frustrating situation in which the couch got stuck within the lift, nearly damaging it. Though I eventually managed to free the couch, the experience left me with lingering anxiety about handling such possessions, as well as a deeper, metaphorical resonance with my fears of the uncertain future. As an international student who has lived in Australia for seven years and moved five times, I've given up on pursuing a sense of belonging in temporary accommodations. The cardboard boxes in my room, the couches floating in the air, and the backdrop of chaotic music in this virtual reality experience are metaphors for my loss of belonging, anxiety about the future, and mental instability. "My Couch is Stuck In the Lift!!!" delves into themes of change, belonging, and the emotional ups and downs that come with constant movement. This virtual reality project elevates a simple incident involving a stuck couch to a deeper reflection on the fleeting nature of home and our search for stability in an ever-changing world.
