A special room

This VR project explores the emotional experience of living between two places. The physical space is my room in Australia, where I live alone, but the presence of video calls and photographs of my mother introduces another space — my home in China. By layering these elements together, the project reflects how emotional connections can transcend geographical distance. In response to the idea of “capturing the essence of a place,” I focused not only on the physical environment but also on the feelings of distance, memory, and longing embedded within it. Sound plays an important role, as the voice from the video call creates a sense of intimacy while also highlighting separation. One technical challenge I encountered was positioning video and audio elements in STYLY to create a coherent and immersive spatial experience.
