Thank you for coming to visit my father’s grave, where memories melt away while we try to hold on to them, longing to preserve reality that was once real, but now slowly fades. This is a tribute to my father Captain Aria FIchman that died on the 2nd of June 2022 and was buried on the 3rd of June 2022 in Haifa, Israel. I am glad to have had the opportunity to bring his grave into virtual reality, and so, be able to visit his grave even when living in the U.K. I feel that by bringing him into VR he becomes somehow immortal. I was inspired by the theme of melting reality in two ways 1. The reality that melts away once your loved one dies 2. The power of vr- how we can melt ''real-life" into virtual reality, and create an experience that is intimate and tangible to our existence is such a way that the two realities are fused. If you knew my father I hope this experience will give you time to connect with him and if you didn't I hope it will give you a glimpse of who he was and in any case a present moment to remember before it melts away.
